If your dog digs, you know how terrible it can be. They dig through the flower bed, under the fence, and random holes in the ground. They don’t listen to anything you say, particularly when you tell them not to dig in the ground, and your neighbors and your spouse is starting to get upset with the constant digging. Is there any way that you can get your puppy to stop digging?
To begin, you have to understand that a dog digging is a natural thing that they do. They want to dig for many reasons, and the key to stopping that dog from performing this act is to figure out exactly why they are doing it, then resolve that issue. It really is that simple.
As stated before, there are many reasons why a dog digs. However, they can be broken down into about three different categories. The first is because they are hot. If you live in a warmer climate, you will find that you may be seeing many more holes during the summer months. The dog will actually dig to try to cool down. A telltale sign of this is that they dig in the shade. To stop this, be sure that you’re offering a cool, dry place for the puppy to take a break.
They may be doing it by instinct. If this is the case, you may want to give them a better place to dig. Show them this place and they’ll start digging there Lastly, you may find that they are digging to mark their territory. If this is the case, you may want to put their own excrement in that hole.

If you have 15 minutes, I guarantee you’ll end all of your dog’s worst behavior problems.
Training a dog is not as easy as it sounds on TV. If you own one, you probably know that already. Some dogs are incredibly easy to train whereas some just simply don’t want to be trained. Don’t be fooled by what anyone says about their puppy… so much depends on what breed, background and even their own personal disposition is. Unknown to many dog owners, however, are that there are some things that you can do to completely destroy your chances of training your dog…
Before you tackle the feat of training your dog, you should know that a successful obedience training program starts before you even approach the dog. You should start by laying down a few rules, both for yourself and for your dog, and stick to them. Don’t break your own rules unless you want them to break them too.
For example, if you let the dog on the furniture, then a few days later decide that you don’t want them on the furniture, you’re going to have an unbelievably hard time convincing them to not get up there again. It works the same way for potty training and giving them treats. Only reward the good behavior.
Once you start training, always remember that the dog cannot understand what you’re saying all the time. Shouting will not make it better. Try to hold back from yelling at the dog, as you will only create stress between the two of you and cause your puppy to digress in its training. The best driver for your puppy is for them to want to please you, and if it senses strained relations between you two, it will not want to please you as much.

One of the more common behavioral problems that owners face is a puppy jumping up on strangers when they walk in the door. Perhaps the dog even jumps on familiar people, as well. This is very stressful for the owners and anyone who comes over their house or apartment because they know that they’re going to get ambushed. Here are a few tips on how to stop your dog from jumping up and completely surprising your family and friends…
There is only reason that a dog will jump up when someone comes to the door. In order to understand why they do it, you have to understand a little bit about dogs in general. Dogs crave love and attention, no matter what type of dog or their background. Even if you give the puppy the most attention you could possibly give a dog, they’ll still crave more. If you haven’t figured it out yet, that is exactly why the dog will jump up on people coming to the door.
To them, that’s just one more person that will pay attention to them, so they make sure their presence is known. So how do you go about making sure your dog is getting the attention it needs to stay down and not bother the person at the door?
You have to start by showing absolutely no interest in the dog when you walk in the door. If you pet them and get down on their level and greet them with a big hug or petting, they’ll do that every time you (or someone else) comes to the door. Instead, simply walk in to your house and don’t pay attention to them. There are a few other things you can do, as well.

Annoyed with spending time having to clean up the floor, vacuum.. Carpet maybe… I hope it’s tile for your sake.. Well we’ve all had this problem with our dogs. It’s a natural problem to have, and one that can be fixed quite quickly.
I highly recommend training your dog. If you haven’t already given it a shot, it’s your best bet. You can do it pretty quickly and effectively once you learn the proper techniques. I will have a link to the best resource I’ve found on training your dog towards the bottom of this article.
However, if training is not for you, there are some simple habits you should start enforcing.
1) Negative association. Make your dog smell it and know that it is wrong to do that.
2) Reward them when they pee properly and in the right place with a treat and love and care.
3) Make it a consistent time of the day when you take them to pee so they know what to expect (and know when to do it)
Problem: Most dogs pee in the house because their owners don’t communicate with their dog! Stop confusing your puppy!
It’s true, most times your dog’s just do not know what you want. You have to learn how to communicate with your dog to stop them from doing the things you don’t want them to do, like peeing.

If your dog barks with a constant fury and you can’t figure out a way to stop it, there are a few tricks that you can use that will virtually guarantee you’ll end your mutt’s barking in a very short period of time. Here’s how you can do it.
To start off, you have to know exactly why they are barking. Most of the time it is because they feel that there is something that is interesting or threatening that they want to bring the attention to their owner. Whether you think it is interesting or not is a different story, and sometimes they may be barking at something that you don’t even know exists, because their sight and vision is much better than a human’s.
So the first step you have to take when getting them to stop is by acknowledging whatever it is they are barking at. You can do this by telling your dog that you see the thing that they are barking at, and that is enough. You should even follow this up with a verbal command to “stop”. This will tell them that the situation is OK, and they can stop without any bad repercussions.
The next thing that you can try is a citronella collar. You can put the collar on the dog by following the directions included with the collar. Every time the dog barks, the dog will get a quick spray of citronella, which they don’t like, and will stop barking. This should only be a solution for use outside.
